I. ortopedická klinika LF MU, Brno.

The author presents an account of his own experience with the implantation of a total endoprosthesis of the femur in 1992 and a total endoprosthesis of the humerus in 1995 in patients after resection of long bones on account of a chondrosarcoma Gl. He draws attention to the necessity of a perfect technical solution of these endoprostheses: the knee joint in the femur and the fixation of the ulnar stem in the humerus. In the case of the humerus it is moreover necessary to respect the physiological localization of the radial nerve and to give preference to the stabilization of the upper extremity against rotation to the scope of movement in the shoulder joint. The author draws attention to ther negative consequences of using a polyethylene carrier when replacing the stem of the long bones. He analyzes the indications and contraindications for the use of these endoprostheses in musculoskeletal tumours. Key words: total endoprosthesis of the femur, total endoprosthesis of the humerus, musculoskeletal tumours.
