[Monitoring the incorporation of bioactive glass ceramics in the area of the acetabulum after surgical revision of the hip joint arthroplasty by scintigraphy.].

K Urban, E Urbanová

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1998; 65(1):11-16

The authors investigated changes of osteoblastic activity at the site of a reconstructed defect of the acetabulum after aseptic loosening of a total endoprosthesis of the hip joint by administration of an osteotropic radiopharmaceutical preparation, methylendiphosphonate, labelled with 99mTc. The defect of the acetabulum was filled with bioactive glass ceramic material BAS-0 (Lasak Co., Prague) in the shape of dense granules 4-8 mm in size and a metal antiprotrusion basket. Into the reconstructed acetabulum a new polyethylene socket of the endoprosthesis was implanted. Examination by the two-head camera Helix of Elscint Co. was performed within two...

[Recostruction of Extensive Acetabular Defects by Bioactive Glass Ceramics in Re-operations of Total Endoprostheses.].

K Urban, P Sponer

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1998; 65(1):17-23

The authors made 37 revisions on account of aseptic loosening of total endoprostheses of the hip joint using bioactive glass ceramics BAS-0 of Lasak Co. Prague. For reconstruction of large defects of the acetabulum they used a combination of different types of anti-protrusion metal baskets and granules from this material. In some instances the glass ceramic material was combined with autologous spongiosa. The longest follow-up period is over 4 years. In no instance loosening of the glass ceramic material occurred or its expulsion. All reconstructed sockets of hip joints were burdened by the patients from the third month after surgery. Harris Hip Score...

[Dynamics of antibiotic release from glass ceramic material.].

I Hanovcová, K Urban

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1998; 65(1):24-30

Using the agar pit method, the authors assessed elution curves of the antibiotics lincomycin, gentamicin and neomycin previously used to saturate bioactive glass ceramic materials BAS-0 and BAS-HA with different porosities. The release into buffered saline at a temperature of 37 C was investigated for a 60-day period. Coagulated human blood on the surface of the granules and blocks used retarded and prolonged the release of antibiotics from glass ceramics. Elution took place in two stages: during the first 12 hours, the maximum of each antibiotic was released and this rapid rise was followed by flattening of the curve and release of a small amount...

[Contribution to the Solution of Patello - femoral Complaints in Children and Adolescents.].

R Lipenský, J Pavlata, P Svoboda

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1998; 65(1):31-34

The authors give an account of their experience with surgery of relapsing dislocations of the patella in children and adolescents. They evaluate a group of 82 patients (89 knee joints) who were attended and treated at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Faculty Hospital in Hradec Králové between January 1990 and August 1997. In all patients arthroscopy was made which rendered the diagnosis more accurate and made it possible to select the optimal therapeutic procedure. If necessary, revealed intraarticular damage was treated arthroscopically. In 42 patients simple release of the lateral retinaculum of the patella was made. In 49 cases combined plastic surgery...

[Systematic Long-term Screening of Scolioses.].

J Blaha, E Ettlerová

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1998; 65(1):35-37

The authors implemented in a defined region for a period of 14 years screening of scolioses in children, primary screening using Adams' test and secondary screening using a scoliometer. They selected as criterion for detection 5 degrees of asymmetry of the back, corresponding to 17 degrees according to Cobb on X-ray pictures. In three growth stages a total of 603 children with scoliosis were detected, incl. 382 girls and 221 boys. The detection rate was highest in the adolescent period (71 %), the majority of detected scolioses (77 %) were idiopathic. On examination with a scoliometer comparable results were achieved with the technique moiré (false...

[Development and Implantation of the Endoprosthesis Rubena CMC in Rhizarthritis.].

M Lutonský

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1998; 65(1):38-41

The author describes the development and production of a new endoprosthesis, Rubena CMC, which is used by the author to deal with advanced stages of rhizarthritis. He mentions in detail the surgical and postoperative procedure. In the discussion he explains in detail problems associated with size and shape of the product and advocates special stages of the surgical procedure. Key words: rhizarthritis, endoprosthesis Rubena CMC, implantation.

[Initial experience with arthroscopic resection of the lateral margin of the clavicle.].

J Pavlata

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1998; 65(1):42-46

The author describes the diagnosis, indications, surgical procedure, postoperative care and initial results of treatment of acromioclavicular arthritis by arthroscopic resection of the lateral margin of the clavicle. The diagnosis of the disease involves clinical and X-ray examination which can be supplemented by ultrasonic examination of soft tissues in the area of the shoulder joint. Indication for surgery is idiopathic or posttraumatic arthritis of the acromioclavicular joint. Arthroscopic resection of the lateral margin of the clavicle ist the endoscopic equivalent of open resection arthroplasty of the joint. The operation is performed under general...

[Correlation of the arthroscopic finding and ultrasound examination of the shoulder joint.].

J Pavlata, J Brtková

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 1998; 65(1):47-51

The authors verify the findings of ulltrasound examination of the shoulder joint by arthroscopy. The ultrasound findings are confirmed in pathological conditions of the rotator cuff, the tendon of the long head of the biceps muscle and in Hill-Sachs' defect. On the other hand, arthroscopically revealed changes of the stability of the joint and synovial lining of the joint were not diagnosed by ultrasound. Key words: arthroscopy of the shoulder joint, ultrasound examination of the shoulder joint.
