[Combined method of treating dislocated fractures of the calcaneus].
J Stehlík, J Stulík
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):209-218
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The treatment of dislocated intraarticular fractures of calcaneus is still an unsolved chapter of traumatology. Our own poor long-term results of a purely conservative procedure has led us to develop a combined method of a direct and indirect reduction of calcaneus with the subsequent stabilization which we have been using since 1994. The basic principle of the method consists in the combination of a direct reduction of dislocated fragments of articular surfaces and indirect of calcaneus as a whole with the subsequent transfixation of calcaneus by K-wires.MATERIAL: In the period of 1994-2001 we have treated in total 261 patients...
[Fractures of the femoral head].
J Matějka, T Pavelka
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):219-228
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The authors summarize their experience in the diagnosis and therapy of femoral head fractures with the aim to make an analysis of the femoral head fractures, a retrospective evaluation of the group of patients and determine diagnostic and therapeutic criteria.MATERIAL: The group of patients comprises 60 patients with the injury of 61 hips in the period of 10 years. The follow-up comprised all hips with any injury of the head. On this basis an extensive group of patients was developed including 31 fractures of Type I-III after Pipkin and 30 fractures of Type IV. The average age of patients was 40.7 years. The evaluation covered...
[A strategy for reduction of blood loss in total hip joint endoprosthesis].
M Svagr
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):229-235
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The aim of the work is to evaluate 42 patients with THA with the use of alternative approaches to blood transfusion.MATERIAL: In the period between 1 October 1998 and 1 October 2001, 42 primary total hip arthroplasties were performed, of which 16 were cemented and 26 cementless, in patients who refused blood transfusion due to religious or other reasons. The operated on group comprised 28 women and 14 men at average age of 57 (range, 38-76 years) with the indication of primary osteoarthritis in 24 patients and secondary osteoarthritis in 18 of them.METHODS: Preoperative and postoperative blood loss was carefully observed...
[Posterior plantar release in the treatment of congenital pes equinovarus].
A Schejbalová
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):236-242
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The study present one of the possible surgical strategies of the therapy of the congenital varus club foot in the youngest patients, most frequently in infants and toddlers. This strategy is used in rigid varus club feet of Dimegli Group 1 and 2. It is possible also to use it in the rebelling varus club feet, however, the reconstruction is more difficult in these cases.MATERIAL: In the period of 1983-2000 the method of posteroplantar release was used 93 times, of which 59 times as a primary surgery and 34 times during revision surgery. The youngest patients were 8 months old, the oldest children were during the revision surgery...
[Fracture-dislocations of the ankle joint in adults. Part I: epidemiologic evaluation of patients during a 1-year period].
D Jehlicka, J Bartonícek, F Svatos, J Dobiás
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):243-247
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The aim of the study is to present a basic statistical overview of fracture-dislocations of the ankle in adults in a one-year group of patients.MATERIAL: The analyzed group of patients comprised 232 patients (121 men, 111 women) treated for fracture-dislocations of the ankle at the authors' department between 1 January and 31 December 1999. In all patients the physes were closed. The type of fractures was classified after B. G. Weber.RESULTS: Type A fractures accounted for 23%, Type B fractures for 65% and Type C fractures for 12% of all cases. The average age of the injured was 49 years (range, 16-89), with men prevailing...
[Functional therapy of diaphyseal fractures of the humeral bone].
T Gongol, D Mrácek
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):248-253
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The authors present a method of the functional treatment of fractures of the humeral shaft at their department. They document its results on a group of 32 patients.MATERIAL: The described method was used between 1992 and 2000 in 36 patients. Evaluation covered 32 patients. The minimal interval between the end of the treatment and evaluation of the group of patients was 1 year. Treated were closed fractures of the medial and distal thirds of the shaft. The average age of patients at the time of injury was 47 years (range, 18-87 years).METHOD: The method described by the authors is based on the principles of the functional...
[Recurrent dislocation of the patella--arthroscopic therapy].
V Svoboda
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):254-258
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The authors present results of the surgical treatment of the recurring patella dislocation. They use the surgical technique of medial percutaneous raphe by absorbable PDS suture and lateral release with arthroscopis assistance.MATERIAL: The operation was performed for recurring dislocation in 19 cases in 16 patients. Three patients underwent a surgery on both knees. The average age of patients was 22 years (range, 14-29 years). The average period after the surgery was 22 months (range, 12-45 months). Minimal number of dislocations prior to operation was 3, maximal more than 20.METHOD: The surgical technique consists in...
[Post-traumatic corrective osteotomy of the distal radius with a new plate].
I Cizmár, P Wendsche, P Brychta, P Visna, I Mensík
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):259-263
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Mal-union of distal radius fractures cause functional limitation and progressive degenerative changes of the wrist. The authors evaluate both radiograph and functional outcomes in a group of patients with a post-traumatic deformation of the distal radius treated by corrective osteotomy and fixation by a newly developed T-plate.MATERIAL: A retrospective evaluation covered a group of 13 patients of the average age of 51 years (range, 35-60 years) operated on in 2001 for post-trauma symptomatic mal-union of the distal radius of the Colles type. The group included only patients in which a new implant was used. The time interval...
[Achilles tendon suturing and reconstruction with the plantaris muscle].
M Janco, P Pikus
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2002; 69(4):264-266
The authors present the first experience in the treatment of fresh ruptures of the Achilles tendon by their own surgical technique--suture end to end with augmentation using plantaris tendon graft. The results were evaluated on a small group of 9 patients (average age 45 years) operated on in the period of 1999-2000. The most important criterion was the subjective evaluation of the patient and the post-operative limitation in sport, job and ordinary activity. We did not record any preoperative or post-operative complication and the limitation of the range of motion was negligible with regard to the needs of the patient. The authors are aware of the...
