[King's Classification of Thoracic Idiopathic Curves.].
- Ortopedická klinika FNsP, Brno-Bohunice.
In 1983 King et al. published a retrospective study of 405 patients with an idiopathic curve located in the thoracic spine, operated by Harrington's method. On the pre-operative X-rays the authors assessed the flexibility index, using a central sacral line, the stable vertebra and compared the findings with the postoperative ones. Based on the assembled data they divided the curves into five groups and elaborated basic rules for assessment of the extent of fusion. This publication had a worldwide response and was mentioned in our professional journals (17). The submitted paper provides more detailed information on this classification and the author assumes that it will be used more widely by local workers in the conservative and surgical treatment of scolioses. Key words: scoliosis, thoracic curve, King's classification.
