[History of diagnostic procedures and surgical treatment of protruded intervertebral disks.].

The article brings the historical survey of evolution of diagnostic procedures and surgical treatment of protruded intervertebral disks. The author comes out partly from the retrieval of English and American literature, which he had chance to obtain from the University library during his study stay in Zürich, partly from the study of Czech and Slovak sources. Historical contribution of the outstanding Czech surgeon, prof. Jan Bedrna, M. D., from Hradec Králové is emphasized. Key words: history, surgical treatment, protruded intervertebral disks.
